Inventing Future Music

In 2023, Beethovenfest is launching a programme that will forge the musical future in Bonn: the Fellowship project. 

Over a period of five years, we offer artists, composers and ensembles freedom to experiment and innovate. The output of the various project phases lasting several months will be presented at the festival. In addition, various prestigious and extraordinary projects are to be realised. The project partners are the Beethoven Orchester Bonn and the Beethoven-Haus Bonn.

Artists and ensembles develop new projects in one of eight fields of musical innovation.

1. Composition: New approaches to composing
2. Concert design: Special concert formats designed as new artistic expression form
3. Ensemble innovations: ensembles and orchestras with fresh ideas and concepts
4. Music & multimedia: projects that create new musica experiences with digital media
5. Interkultural & trans-traditional music: Artistic connections beyond European Art Music
6. Participation: Inclusive and interactive formats and »community music« projects
7. Music and sustainabilty: Artistic projects concerned with man and nature and sustainable concert formats
8. Beethoven interpretation:  approaches to interpreting or contextualising Beethoven’s music in a special way. Our partner for this sphere of activity is the Beethoven-Haus Bonn.

Fellows are selected in a multi-stage process. In addition to a nomination process, there is also the possibility to apply. For the Fellowship in 2024, please send your application by August 15, 2023 with a one-page project description by e-mail to fellowship[at]beethovenfest.de.

The project idea should be summarized on one page and relate to one or more of the fields of action mentioned above. References and links to the biography as well as further information are also helpful. If the project idea is of interest for the Fellowship project, the Beethovenfest team will get back to you as soon as possible.
