Austrian Percussionist Bernhard Schimpelsberger performs on a multi-layered and melodious percussion kit, with a unique style described as »gripping, responsive solo percussion« (Chicago Tribune), »in a style true to that of a tabla virtuoso« (Confluence).
Schimpelsberger studied the complex rhythmic system of Indian classical music under master drummer Suresh Talwalkar. His expertise in bringing together Indian classical rhythms and European music led to collaborations with stars of Indian music and dance such as Anoushka Shankar (sitar) or Akram Khan (dance).
His audio-visual music project »Rhythm Diaries«, documenting his collaborations and studies in Brazil, India, South Africa and all across Europe, has been critically acclaimed and received numerous awards around the world.
Schimpelsberger currently tours as a guest soloist with South African cello shooting star Abel Selaocoe as well as with his own percussion concertos. He has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra or the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra to name a few.
His original compositions have been performed at Beethovenfest Bonn and at the Rowing World Cup Championships Ottensheim/Linz, and by the Britten Sinfonia Orchestra and Malta’s National Dance Company.
