At just 28, Momi Maiga has emerged as one of the most promising musicians of his generation. A virtuoso kora player, captivating vocalist, and self-taught composer, he is acclaimed for his sensitivity and his ability to blend jazz, flamenco, and classical influences. Singing mainly in Mandinka and Wolof, his lyrics address universal themes such as migration, education, and social justice.
Born in the Casamance region of southern Senegal, Maiga belongs to the renowned Cissokho family of griot musicians. Steeped from childhood in the musical traditions of West Africa, he embodies this centuries-old heritage while adding his own contemporary voice. He began playing the kora at the age of six, quickly gaining recognition for his natural talent.
Now based in Spain, Maiga has earned international acclaim as a bandleader, singer, and composer. With his two albums, »NIO« (2022) and »Kairo« (2024), he has toured extensively across Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Norway, Italy, Austria, Germany, Bulgaria, and Latvia. He has also collaborated with celebrated artists including Jordi Savall, Youssou N’Dour, Amaro Freitas, and Sílvia Pérez Cruz, among others.
