Oliver Lutz (born 1986 in Hanau) began taking drum lessons at the age of ten. Via saxophone and guitar he eventually discovered the bass. He first studied electric and double bass at the Musikhochschule Mannheim, and after three years he changed to the Musikhochschule Köln.
With his quartet »RE: CALAMARI«, he released his third album as a band leader in 2020. His melody-driven songs and compositions are bursting with multi-layered, powerful textures. The F.A.Z. hears a »recognisably individual sound«.
In addition to his own projects, Oliver Lutz is a sideman with »SALOMEA« - hip hop, electronic music and avant-garde interwoven into a genre of its own. In 2020, the second album of the »Working Band« was released, whose music is created while performing, while touring.
Oliver Lutz has worked with international jazz stars such as Pablo Held, Seamus Blake and Gary Husband. He has performed in America, Africa, Asia and Europe, and has made guest appearances at Enjoy Jazz, the Leverkusener Jazztage, the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and the world-famous Montreaux Jazz Festival, among others.
