Musicians in Afghanistan face threats and persecution. The Afghanistan National Institute of Music left Kabul when the Taliban came to power and fled into exile in Portugal. With the transtraditional Trickster Orchestra under the direction of the German-Iranian conductor, composer and singer Cymin Samawatie and members of the Bundesjugendorchester, a musical exchange is taking place across borders. In keeping with the motto »tantôt libre tantôt recherchée« (»partly free, partly bound«), which Beethoven prefaced his Große Fuge (op. 133), fixed (composed) and loose (improvised) elements shake hands on this evening.
