Description
Georgia in the cultural focus – our Campus Project 2026 invites this country’s young generation for a dynamic cooperation with young German musicians, setting an example for dialogue and openness. Members of the major youth orchestras of both nations connect Beethoven with a cross-section of Georgian musical modernism. The Campus commissioned work is being written by seventeen-year-old Tsotne Zedginidze – according to Lisa Batiashvili, a »once-in-a-generation talent«.
The concert lasts around 90 minutes.
Before the concert, Deutsche Welle invites all concert-goers to a panel discussion on the topic »Democracy under pressure? The situation for cultural and media professionals in Georgia«.
Starts at 7 pm in the auditorium
Georgia has been in a politically and socially polarised environment for years. Independent and critical media are under pressure, whilst the spread of disinformation and influence campaigns is on the rise. Georgian cultural professionals also report increasing repression: criticism is punished, in some cases even with imprisonment. Our guests will discuss how the situation for cultural and media professionals in Georgia is developing. The discussion will be moderated by Jochen Rosenkranz, Head of Culture & Sports at DW.
