Description
»You will rise again, yes, you will rise again in an instant, my heart!« This is what Mahler’s Second Symphony tells us, and this is true for the people of Bonn and the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn as they prepare to perform in the newly renovated Beethoven Hall! Having spent the last few years scattered across factory halls, construction sites, hotels, gyms and schools, the orchestra is delighted to be performing in the heart of the city’s music scene once again. It is now in its former glory, boasting new technology and the warmth of tradition, as well as the fire of the future.
All three of the pieces performed that evening were composed by people in their thirties who wanted to conquer the world: Ludwig van Beethoven, Sara Glojnarić and Gustav Mahler. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, featuring the world-class Bonn pianist Fabian Müller, and Mahler’s visionary Second Symphony, featuring the Federal Youth Choir, frame the evening’s commissioned composition. In this way, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the future of the arts.
Sara Glojnarić was commissioned to write the festive opening piece. A torchbearer for new music, she is celebrated by musicians, critics and audiences alike. Coincidentally, she shares her birthday with rock star David Bowie, who was almost four decades older than her. »Touched by David Bowie’s Stardust«, as has been written about her, she plays with the past, present and future, and tackles the big questions of our time.
