The concert at a glance
What can I expect?
Vilde Frang plays her violin with elfin lightness. And the crème de la crème of British orchestras: the London Symphony Orchestra.
What does it sound like?
What does artistic director Steven Walter say?
»I studied music with Vilde Frang in Oslo many years ago. Now, she is a star violinist, while I am the artistic director of Beethovenfest and only take out my cello on rare occasions. It is a great pleasure to welcome Vilde to Bonn as part of a dream team alongside conductor Antonio Pappano and the London Symphony Orchestra, one of the world’s leading orchestras!« – Steven Walter
Description
»To me, Beethoven’s Violin Concerto is a bit like the Mona Lisa – you see the smile, but you don’t really understand it. Is she smiling at me or about me?« For Vilde Frang, the famous piece has lost none of its awe-inspiring aura. The world-class violinist finds a fragile, honest sound with which to perform it. She can switch between grace and explosion in seconds, putting her superior technique entirely at the service of Beethoven’s enigmatic, timeless expression.
Accompanying her is the internationally acclaimed top orchestra from London, led by its principal conductor, Antonio Pappano. The Italian-born Englishman once said of his London Symphony Orchestra: »With them, from the very first beat, I feel like I’m getting into a Ferrari and pushing the gas pedal down.« The orchestra is on top form for Tchaikovsky’s passionate Fifth Symphony.
