This community project brings 1:1 CONCERTS back to Bonn as part of Beethovenfest 2025 – as a very special »Ultra Edition« in keeping with this year's motto »Alles ultra«, based on a quote by Goethe that aptly sums up extremes and challenges then and now.
In this internationally renowned smallest possible concert format, one musician and one listener meet for an entertaining musical encounter face to face. This ›blind date‹ comes as a surprise to both parties: neither the artist, composer, piece nor instrument is revealed in advance. At the moment of eye contact, the musician decides which piece to play, depending on the situation.
The one-to-one concerts already received enthusiastic reactions at the 2024 festival. This year, everything will be ultra:
Ultra hosts: Members of the Beethovenfest Circle of Friends personally accompany listeners to their concerts and help shape the project.
Ultra venues: The concerts take place at extreme, extravagant venues in Bonn and the surrounding area – for example the Coppeneur praline production facilities, Beethoven’s mother’s grave in Bonn’s Old Cemetery, the operating theatre at Waldkrankenhaus hospital or the historic ship Aalschokker Aranka on the Rhine.
Ultra musicians: Beethovenfest musicians play on instruments that are as unusual as possible – from piccolo flute to double bass, from flugelhorn to electric guitar.
