Fritz Roppel is well-known in the German music scene because of his versatility as a bassist for contrabass and bass guitar. After studying jazz at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, he taught there from 1996 to 2001.

Roppels playing is distinct for its high musicality, versatility and sensibility in ensemble playing. He has a rich history of cooperations, for example with the Bochumer Symphoniker, the WDR Funkhaus, Jennifer Rush, Bobby McFerrin, the Wise Guys, Sylvia Droste, Mike Sadler (Saga) as well as ChamberJazz and tango projects.
