What is a Relaxed Performance?

A »Relaxed Performance« is a concert specifically designed to create a pleasant and accessible atmosphere for people with different needs.

The aim is for everyone to be able to experience the concert in their own way and feel at ease in an inclusive environment.

During the concert, there is no need to follow strict rules of behaviour or conventions.

You do not have to sit still or be quiet.

You are free to move around, make noise, leave the room and come back whenever you need to.

You are free to show how you feel – this is welcome.

The performance

Elsa Artmann: Life After Love

Welcome

This is Elsa Artmann.

Elsa is a choreographer and dancer. She is the artistic director of the SANFTE ARBEIT collective.

Together with the ensemble, she will be presenting work-in-progress excerpts from her latest piece, Life After Love, in a Relaxed Performance: a performance combining dance, speech and music.

The world premiere of the full piece will take place a few days later, on 16 September.

The ensemble

Elsa Artmann is the artistic director. She sings and dances.
Diana Treder sings and dances.
Anne-Lena Nöldner sings and dances.
Annie Bloch plays the guitar and keyboard.
Johanna Klein plays the saxophone and creates music using electronic instruments.
and a vocal and movement choir.

Together, they compose the songs and devise the choreography.

What Life After Love is about

Many people believe:
Romantic love makes life secure.
And romantic love ensures a bright future.

The dance piece asks:
Does it really have to be that way?
And it shows other possibilities.

The dancers express their ideas on this question.

For example:

How people look after one another in a relationship.
For example, how they support one another,
comfort one another,
and touch one another.

The dance piece is about other kinds of relationships.

For example:

Relationships between women.
Or relationships between people of different ages.
These are possibilities too.

The dance piece asks the question:

How do female partners look after one another?
What is important to them?
What do other people not see?

The Sanfte Arbeit collective has taken a close look at other kinds of relationships.
And the dancers demonstrate examples of touch.
They show how people express their feelings in public.
But others do not see these signs.
In the dance piece, the dancers show the signs of love.

And the possibilities there are for being together in a different way.

Tickets

How to buy tickets and what discounts are available

To attend the performance, you will need a ticket.

A ticket costs 19 euros.

For people with a severe disability card, a ticket costs 9.50 euros. It also costs 9.50 euros for children, students and apprentices up to the age of 30.

People accompanying those with severe disabilities receive a free ticket.

You can also buy tickets directly at the box office on the night of the performance. It opens 60 minutes before the performance starts and is located at the entrance to the Beethovenhalle.

Please note: You cannot book a wheelchair space or a free ticket for a companion on our website. You can do this by telephone, by emailing tickets@beethovenfest.de, or in person at the Beethovenhalle.

You can also ask questions or request assistance at reception.

If you are accompanied by a companion or assistant, they may, of course, enter the venue with you.

How to get to the Beethovenhalle

Here is some information to help you when you visit, so you feel comfortable.

This performance will be held at Beethovenhalle Bonn in the so called Studio. The address is

Wachsbleiche 16, 53111 Bonn.

It is a large concert hall building, but the Studio is a smaller hall within.

When you get off the bus, you are already facing the path to the Beethovenhalle. It leads through a small park. The way is cobbled, but even. There are bollards on the path that can be bypassed. The road behind is moderately noisy.

The entrance into the building

There is a main entrance to Beethovenhalle within the forecourt facing Welschnonnenstraße.

However, for this concert, only the second entrance is open, the south entrance.

The south entrance can be reached if you turn right on the path in the park or via stairs from the Theaterstraße (moderate slope).

Here’s what you need to know if you use a wheelchair: If you’re coming in through the main entrance and want to go to the studio, you’ll need to ask the service staff to help you use the stairlift to Forum Süd.

The doors to the Beethovenhalle open 60 minutes before the performance begins (from 4 pm). The doors to the Studio open 45 minutes before the performance begins (from 3.15 pm).

If you need to buy or collect a ticket, you can go to the box office in the South foyer.

The foyer has a floor made of concrete slabs. There is no music playing in the foyer through a speaker system.

It may be noisier in the foyer during the concert. Events for families with children are taking place at the same time, so it may be a bit livelier as a result.

There will be places to sit in the foyer, and a bar to buy drinks or snacks.

At the foyer of Forum Süd, there are stairs or a lift to reach the basement.

The elevator is located in the hallway to the right of the staircase shown in the picture.

The coat check for the Studio is located only on the basement level.

Once you've gone down the stairs or taken the elevator to the basement, walk straight ahead past the coat check and through the connecting door. The entrance to the studio is on the left.

All emergency exits are clearly signposted.

In an emergency, our trained staff will help you to leave the building safely.

There are no loud alarm signals – in the event of an evacuation, staff will make the announcement.

What sensory supports are available

Before the performance

The studio opens 45 minutes before the performance begins, at 3.15 pm. This gives you the chance to settle in at your leisure.

At 3.30 pm: Tactile tour

Explore the stage set before the performance begins. The artists will show you around and are on hand to answer any questions.

During the performance

There will be a quiet space available in a seperate room (Seminar Room D) which you can go to at any time.

It is located on the left next to the elevator on the ground floor. You will find it with the help of sign posts or our service personnel.

It has normal chairs and few bean bags.

There will be fidget tools there that you can borrow during the performance.
