Description
Providing a penetrating view of the mendacity and greed of our society today, while at the same time empathetically dealing with the shortcomings of human beings, the Swiss author, playwright and dramaturge Lukas Bärfuss (b. 1971) urges us to critically examine our lifestyles and the stories we tell ourselves to justify them. »Facts have a devil of a time finding their way into human consciousness... We like to hide unpleasant facts behind false words,« he writes at the beginning of »Nach uns die Amöben?«.
We are looking forward to seeing how Lukas Bärfuss will speak to our consciences in his opening lecture at Beethovenfest, and to discover what hopes he may have for art and culture in view of the need for the swiftest possible transformation of the energy industry, and of society, without which the current crises cannot be overcome. This reflection takes on a special historical dimension against the background of the 75th anniversary of the constituent meeting of the Parliamentary Council on 1 September, from which the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany emerged nine months later.
