What is special about the concert?
The pianist presents two late works by two composers who died only one year apart: Beethoven and Schubert – two very different witnesses of the beginnings of musical Romanticism.
How does it sound?
Description
Franz Schubert only outlived his idol Beethoven by a single year. It was during that year that the 31-year-old composer wrote his last Piano Sonata. A heavenly vastness opens up in this delicate music, which seems to know no limits. Alexander Lonquich juxtaposes that piece with Beethoven’s final great work for piano: the no-less-powerful »Diabelli Variations«. Two compelling musical legacies.
