Exhibition
In the foyer of the Telekom headquarters, we are showing the exhibition »›Not for women’s hands‹? – Female composers and pianists in the 19th century«, curated by the Music and Gender Research Centre at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. Historical letters, first editions and original sheet music shed light on the work of women in the immediate vicinity of Ludwig van Beethoven.
Opening hours: 4–12 December, 10:00–20:00, free admission.
Description
Each finalist will perform one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano trios together with the Beethoven Trio Bonn – pieces that show the rich and complex nature of musical conversation in chamber music. In this round, the finalists are not just soloists, but equal partners in the ensemble. This requires strong communication, musical sensitivity, and a good sense of balance and sound.
The program also includes a contemporary solo piano work, written in the 21st century. This combination of classical and modern music gives the pianists a chance to show their individual style and creativity, and to present a broad range of musical expression.
The following repertoire is mandatory for candidates in the chamber music finale:
A contemporary work from the 21st century (composed after December 31, 2000)
One of the following piano trios by Ludwig van Beethoven:
in E flat major, op. 1/1
in G major, op. 1/2
in C minor, op. 1/3
in D major, op. 70/1
in E flat major, op. 70/2
