In a week’s time, Beethovenfest 2023 will finally get underway – and this year’s Festival Centre Kreuzkirche will be opened. Preparations are currently in full swing: the freeters artists’ collective is sawing, hammering and screwing for all it’s worth to transform the Kreuzkirche on Kaiserplatz into the centrepiece of this year’s festival.
This is not just about interior design ’ rather, the artists of the freeters collective are creating a total work of art in a collaborative artistic process that can be experienced during the festival. The resulting space will offer room for convivial evenings after the concerts, for discussions with artists, for events in the accompanying programme, for large concerts and special formats such as after-work concerts, late night concerts and programmes for young people and families. From the opening on 1 September, the festival headquarters will be open daily from 11 am to 6 pm for all curious visitors.
We visited freeters in the middle of the creative process and gathered our first impressions.
