Description
A composer’s final works often bear a connection to their creator’s death – and so Beethoven’s last piano sonata is frequently viewed in this light, even though he lived on for just under a decade afterwards. Nevertheless, one cannot deny how this unique music rises from the tribulations of a complex fugue into transcendent realms. A fitting work to mark the 200th anniversary of the composer’s death, which Amir Ron combines with a mournful piece from an earlier era, Bach’s great Chaconne. These are joined by Schumann’s Davidsbündlertänze, a masquerade of allusions to Schumann’s personal life. The 26-year-old pianist from Israel won last year’s Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn and is returning here for the first time to give this recital.
