Professor Dr. Christoph Butterwegge (*1951) is a German political scientist. He studied social sciences, law, philosophy and psychology and was awarded a Dr. rer. pol. He obtained his habilitation in political science with an examination of the theory and practice of Austrian social democracy (›Austromarxism‹), lectured and held several chairs in the fields of social and political science. Butterwegge is a member of the Research Center for Intercultural Studies (FiSt) at the Universität zu Köln. Furthermore, he is a member of the Education and Science Workers’ Union.
His foci in research and lecturing, amongst others, are ›causes and manifestations of social inequality‹, ›consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy price explosion and the inflation‹, ›right-wing extremism, racism and (youth) violence‹, ›globalisation‹ and ›migration and integration politics‹. As an author, he has published several works, such as the book »Umverteilung des Reichtums« in 2024.
