Pascal Schumacher from Luxembourg is undoubtedly one of the most versatile musicians of his generation. As a vibraphonist, composer, bandleader and sound director, he develops his authentic work from very different musical influences.
Pascal Schumacher studied drums, vibraphone and musicology at the universities of Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Brussels and The Hague. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Musicology and in Jazz Vibraphone. Pascal has received numerous awards and was selected for the Rising Stars programme of the European Concert Hall Organisation in 2009/2010.
Pascal Schumacher has performed with such exciting musicians as Maxime Delpierre, Francesco Tristano, Magic Malik, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Wolfgang Haffner and Nils Frahm. He fuses emotional classical music with minimalist electronic sounds to create what has been called modern classical music – but for Schumacher himself, any classification is obsolete. For him, music is a single, limitless playground.
2018 marked a new beginning for Pascal Schumacher, who started developing his own solo material following an invitation to the Jazz & The City Festival in Salzburg. This experience opened up a completely new path for the composer, culminating in his debut solo album »SOL«, which he released in 2020 under the Neue Meister label. Two years later, at the beginning of 2022, his second solo album »LUNA« followed, with which he toured throughout Europe.
In 2024, Pascal Schumacher started his new project »GLASS I–III«, focusing on works by Philip Glass, arranged by Schumacher himself and complemented by his own compositions. The first album was released as a solo EP, followed by a duo project with pianist Danae Dörken, which the two will be touring in the coming seasons. For GLASS III, American composer Judd Greenstein is writing a vibraphone concerto especially for Pascal Schumacher.
Pascal is a professor at the Music Conservatory of Luxembourg. He is the artistic director of the innovative music festival Reset in Abbaye Neimenster and is also the Luxembourg ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages International.
