Lucile Boulanger began taking lessons on the viola da gamba at the age of five, before continuing her training with Ariane Maurette and, later, Jérôme Hantaï. Following further studies in Paris and Cergy, she was accepted onto Christophe Coin’s course at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, graduating with honours in 2009.
She has won prizes at several international competitions, including the Bach-Abel International Viola da Gamba Competition in Köthen, the Società Umanitaria di Milano Competition and the Musica Antiqua Brugge Competition.
A highly sought-after chamber music partner, she performs with numerous soloists and ensembles, including Philippe Pierlot, François Lazarevitch, Christophe Rousset and Hugo Reyne. She also plays with larger ensembles such as Ensemble Correspondances, Les Talens Lyriques and Pygmalion. She also performs with several consorts, including the Ricercar Consort, L’Achéron and Musicall Humors. She also regularly gives recitals.
Her two duo CDs with pianist and harpsichordist Arnaud de Pasquale, released on the Alpha label (a Bach recording in 2012 followed by an album featuring C. P. E. Bach, Hasse and Graun in 2015), won several awards in France. In 2025, she was honoured as Instrumental Soloist of the Year at the Victoires de la musique classique in France.
In November 2018, the Harmonia Mundi label released a CD featuring works by Forqueray, Corelli, Mascitti and Leclair. Her next CD, released in 2022, was dedicated to solo works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Carl Friedrich Abel. The album received the following review: »The French violinist captivates with her virtuoso and deeply felt playing, and enchants with a warm, soulful sound.« (Concerti). This was followed in 2024 by »La Messagère«, a journey through French viola da gamba music from the Baroque period to the present day.
