»The world is full of fast young pianists. But among them, those like Marušić stand out, whose thoughts and artistic imagination are faster than their fingers.« Branimir Pofuk, Večernji List
The Croatian pianist impressively confirmed his international reputation by winning the silver medal at the prestigious Telekom Beethoven Competition 2023 in Bonn. He was also awarded the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by Robert Schumann. In 2021, he won the silver medal at the International Piano Competition in Cleveland, USA.
His competition record is impressive: first prize at the 20th International Santa Cecilia Competition in Porto (2018), first prize at the IMF Competition in Paris (2018) and first prize, composition prize and audience prize at the Isidor Bajić Piano Competition in Novi Sad (2016) are among his outstanding successes.
Lovre Marušić received his first piano lessons from Rozarija Samodol in his home town of Omiš. At the invitation of the renowned Russian pianist Natalia Trull, he continued his studies in 2006 at the Central Music School of the State Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where he graduated in 2011. He then studied at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, first with Ruben Dalibaltayan and later with Ljubomir Gašparović, with whom he also graduated. For his outstanding achievements during his studies, he was awarded the Rector’s and Dean’s Prize. For his postgraduate studies, he moved to the Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar to study with Grigory Gruzman.
Marušić is in international demand as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Croatian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra, the Irkutsk Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Croatian National Theatre in Split. He is also active in chamber music – with the Escher String Quartet (New York), the Beethoven Trio Bonn and the Zagreb and Split Soloists, among others.
His artistic activities have taken him to festivals and concert series in Europe, China and the USA. For several years he has been Professor of Piano at the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music in Klagenfurt and Artistic Director of the Ostinato International Chamber Music Festival in Omiš.
Recital debuts at festivals in Switzerland, Germany, Portugal and Italy are planned for the 2024/25 season. Concert engagements will take Marušić to the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and on two tours of China with Simon Zhu and Yuri Revich. Numerous other chamber music projects throughout Europe are also planned.
