Kristina Edin was born and raised in a musical family on a small island off the coast of Gothenburg, Sweden. She studied the double bass at both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, under Rinat Ibragimov, and the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, under Matthew McDonald. She then spent a season as principal bassist with the Philharmonic Orchestras of Bielefeld and Dortmund.
A sought-after double bassist, Kristina has made guest appearances as principal bassist with the Oslo and Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestras, among others, in recent years. She is currently the Mainz Philharmonic State Orchestra’s deputy principal bassist. Alongside her orchestral work, Kristina regularly participates in chamber music projects and currently plays in a tango group in Mainz. Back in her native Sweden, Kristina enjoys sailing and arranging folk songs and classical music for the Edin Consort.
