Josefa Schmidt (born 1998) is a pianist, chamber musician, concert designer and teacher.
She has performed at Rheingau Music Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, Beethovenfest Bonn, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and Mozart Festival Würzburg, among others. As a soloist, she has performed with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
She was awarded the TONALi Creative Prize and has been a member of the TONALiSTEN ensemble ever since. She received a scholarship and a special prize with the AVIN Trio at the German Music Competition, as well as prizes at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the ICMC of Jeunesses Musicales and the International Rubinstein Chamber Music Competition. The trio’s virtual reality production, Schubert.SPACE, created in collaboration with the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, was nominated for an Opus Klassik award. Josefa has also won several prizes as a soloist in national and international competitions.
She studied the piano at the music academies in Hanover and Stuttgart under Roland Krüger, Markus Becker, and Florian Wiek. She has drawn artistic inspiration from Kristian Bezuidenhout, Sol Gabetta and the members of the Kuss, Artemis and Belcea quartets, as well as the ATOS Trio.
Josefa Schmidt regularly develops new concert formats, including MindMusic. She has created projects and formats in collaboration with the Reeperbahn Festival, PODIUM Esslingen, TONALi Hamburg and Leuphana University Lüneburg, and the Heidelberger Frühling.
Josefa Schmidt has received scholarships from the German Music Foundation, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and the Alfred Töpfer Foundation.
She has been teaching piano at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover since October 2024.
