Hanni Liang is a pianist and concert creator – the latter of which she currently teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. She is deeply convinced that art and culture can foster a more humane way of living together. In her concert projects, she artistically explores contemporary social themes. Actively engaged in developing new concert formats, she consistently transcends the boundaries of the traditional classical concert, incorporating other art forms and questioning her role as a musician and artist of today in light of the current global challenges.
Her performances have taken her to venues such as the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, where she questioned »Who owns the water?« in a performance of Caroline Shaw’s piano concerto, or to the Pinakothek der Moderne, where she created a performance on broken instruments for the finissage of the exhibition Glitch, seeking the »Beauty in the broken«. She has also performed at the Royal Concert Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Styriarte Festival in Graz, and the Staatsoper Hannover.
Through her co-creative projects, in which she involves people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds in the artistic processs – both on and behind the stage – she transforms the concert into a space of encounter and exchange. Among others, she curated a four-week »Festival within the Festival« on the theme of Urban Encounters at Mozartfest Würzburg. Upcoming projects will take her to collaborations with the Edinburgh International Festival, Wigmore Hall, the Munich Philharmonic, and the Elbphilharmonie.
