Praised by the press as a »true ambassador for the versatility of his instrument«, Goran Stevanovich is regarded as one of today’s leading accordionists. Like few others, the young musician succeeds in establishing the accordion on concert stages beyond the usual repertoire. His versatile musical skills make him a sought-after chamber music partner for artists such as the oboist Albrecht Mayer, who introduced him in 2020 to perform a duo recital together as part of the Hitzacker Music Week.
Goran Stevanovich maintains an exceptionally broad repertoire, ranging from early music through Schubert, Bruckner, Mahler and Hindemith to contemporary composers. Over the years, he has developed a sound aesthetic and style all his own. He has premiered works by George Lewis, Feliz Anne Reyes Macahis, Randall Meyers, Aleksandra Vrebalov and Markus Stockhausen. He is also regularly involved in innovative concert formats: in 2020, for instance, he premiered Clemens Gadenstätter’s impressive work Die Zelle together with the Klangforum Heidelberg, and in 2019 and 2021 he was involved in the multi-part world premiere of José María Sánchez-Verdú’s Commedia.
Other highlights included the multimedia project Circling Realities, featuring the Orchester im Treppenhaus, which evolved into a completely new concert format during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as melaTONin – a concert co-developed by Stevanovich in which the phases of the sleep cycle are brought to life through music.
The Hanover-based musician has also performed at major festivals such as the Bruckner Festival in Linz, Young Euro Classics Berlin, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mozart Festival in Würzburg and the SWR Festival. In 2019, he received acclaim in Liverpool as part of the UNESCO Soloist Exchange Programme. He works regularly with the Ensemble Mini Berlin. In addition, he forms duos with the Hamburg-based double bassist Felix von Werder and the violist Yannick Hettich from Hanover. His ensemble trio.s brings him together with the singers Sonja Catalano and Susann Jebrini.
In addition to his chamber music projects, his engagements take him to renowned orchestras such as the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and the St George’s Hall Residence Orchestra in Liverpool. His concerts have been recorded by Deutschlandfunk, NDR, ARD and BR Klassik.
Born and raised in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he first picked up the accordion as a child – an instrument that is deeply rooted in the folk music of his homeland. He moved to Hanover to study, where he completed his concert exam in 2018 as part of the Meisterstück series at the University of Music and is now a lecturer there.
