Dr Suzanna Randall is a trained astronaut, a PhD astrophysicist, a science communicator and an author. After completing a Master’s degree in Astronomy at University College London in 2002, she obtained a PhD in Astrophysics from the Université de Montréal in Canada in 2006. She has since worked at the European Southern Observatory (ESO), first at the Very Large Telescope in Chile and then at the ALMA telescope. Her research focuses on pulsating blue subdwarf stars, and she has hosted ESO’s YouTube series »Chasing Starlight« since 2023.
Alongside her research, Dr Randall is actively involved in science communication. She has appeared numerous times on television and radio and has presented and moderated on the ZDF YouTube channel »Terra X Lesch & Co«.
She is also an author of popular science books for adults and children. Her publications include »Wellenreiten im Weltall« (Gräfe und Unzer, 2022) and the two children’s books »Unser Weg ins Weltall« and »Abenteuer Raketenstart« (Oetinger Verlag, 2021, together with Insa Thiele-Eich).
Dr. Randall is a passionate advocate for STEM education and empowerment, particularly among young women. In her talks to adults, children and young people, she discusses space travel, astronomy, sustainability, and how to follow your dreams, whether as a scientist or a future astronaut. She is fluent in German, English, French and Spanish.
