Aya Sone was born in Kyoto, Japan, and began her ballet training at the age of four. After her move to Germany in 2005, she became a member of the ballet company of the Oper Chemnitz. Following this, she worked with the companies of the Staatstheater Braunschweig, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München and the Landesbühne Sachsen, bevor becoming a freelance artist in 2015.

Today, she lives and works in Munich and is active internationally as a dancer, performer in dance projects, physical theatre, opera productions and interdisciplinary collaborations. Apart from her cooperation with other artists, she develops her own artistic projects. Her current film project, supported by the Debütförderung der Landeshauptstadt München and the Bayerischer Landesverband für zeitgenössischen Tanz, marks a new step in her artistic development and widens her practice towards conceptional work with movement, film and visual elements.
