In 1881, Wilhelm Joseph Meys founded the »Joseph Meys & Co. Fabrik landwirtschaftlicher Maschinen« in Hennef, which existed until the company was dissolved in 1980.
After the company went out of business, the town of Hennef acquired the site and an existing hall. This was renovated and converted into an event hall. The town library, the town archives and the fire station are also housed on the site.
