Nico Köhs first studied secondary school education with the subjects mathematics and music in Frankfurt am Main. He then studied piano (Prof. Sheila Arnold) and choral conducting (Prof. Peter Dijkstra & Prof. Florian Helgath) at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. He has received further artistic impulses from Prof. Anthony Spiri, Prof. Fabio Bidini, Prof. Götz Payer, Prof. Georg Grün and Zoltán Pad.
A busy concert schedule as a pianist has already taken him to the Alte and Neue Oper, the Frankfurt Steinway Centre, the Claviernacht Aachen and the Cologne Opera. As a conductor, he works with ensembles such as the WDR Rundfunkchor, Chorwerk Ruhr and Onzemble Coeln. Köhs is also the founder and director of the vocal ensemble »Ensemble for Future«. Since January 2023 he has been the director of the Oratorio Choir Brühl, and from October 2023 he will be the new artistic director of the Philharmonic Choir Cologne.
Furthermore, he has been a scholarship holder in the Conducting Forum of the German Music Council since April 2022.
