Kiveli Dörken’s passion and dedication to music, and her infectious enthusiasm, are evident in every moment of her concerts. With her engaging charisma, she establishes a close connection with her audience. Before sitting down at the piano to explore the boundaries of sound and artistic expression, she likes to address her listeners.
She began her musical career at the age of seven, studying with the renowned piano teacher Prof Karl-Heinz Kämmerling for ten years. Her second teacher was the pianist and conductor Lars Vogt, who remained a close friend until his death in September 2022. She gave her first orchestral concert at the age of eight. This was followed by solo performances with orchestras including the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Hamburg Camerata, the Camerata Bern, and the Athens State Orchestra.
She has performed in many renowned concert halls, including the Elbphilharmonie, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, as well as in most European countries, China, Japan, Korea and the USA. She has performed at festivals including Kissinger Sommer, Spannungen in Heimbach, Gezeitenkonzerte, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Sommets musicaux in Gstaad and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. Concert highlights include performing for the Dalai Lama in 2007 and for German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington, D.C. in 2009.
A significant part of her career as a concert artist is dedicated to chamber music. She regularly performs with artists such as Christian Tetzlaff, Antje Weithaas, Julian Steckel and Sharon Kam. Following Lars Vogt’s death, she joined Christian Tetzlaff and Tanja Tetzlaff in his former piano trio. She performs regularly in a piano duo with her sister, Danae.
In 2015, the two sisters founded the Molyvos International Music Festival on the Greek island of Lesbos. Despite the financial and refugee crisis, the festival has not only brought the tradition of classical music to Lesbos, but has also become a beacon of hope for the region.
In 2020, Kiveli Dörken released her debut CD featuring solo and chamber music works by Josef Suk on the ARS label.
