Wolfgang Hentrich

In addition to his work as an orchestral musician – he has been the leader of the Dresden Philharmonie since 1996, before that he spent nine years in the same position at the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz – Wolfgang Hentrich has devoted his time to directing the Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Dresden. As a soloist he has given concerts with Marek Janowski, Walter Weller, Sir Neville Marriner, Markus Poschner and Andrew Litton.

The artist’s diverse repertoire ranges from Baroque music via the cyclical performance of violin sonatas, such as those by Mozart, Schumann, Brahms and Grieg, to joint performances with the rock musician Dirk Zöllner. His CD productions include various violin concertos, orchestral works by Johann Strauss, Mozart’s violin sonatas and works by Paganini for violin and guitar.

Following in the footsteps of the legendary Viennese principal violin Willi Boskovsky Wolfgang Hentrich has, since 1999, conducted several New Year’s concerts in the Dresden Philharmonie and the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz. As guest leader he regularly performed with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin starting in 2009. It was also with this orchestra that he recorded Richard Wagner’s operas for the music label PENTATONE under conductor Marek Janowski.

The concert series ‘Dresdener Abende’ in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden was created by him and the Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Dresden in 2012. In 2002 he and passionate music-lovers founded the Fördervereinsorchester of the Dresdener Philharmonie.

Wolfgang Hentrich is an honorary professor of violin at the Dresdner Musikhochschule. He is particularly interested in developing special programmes for children. Since August 2013 he has been the principal conductor of the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie.
