Rie Akamatsu was born and raised in Saitama, Japan. She graduated from the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokio with the highest graded Bachelor of Music. She completed her master studies in solo piano, for which she received a scholarship from the city of Saitama, at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne with Professor Lobanov and Scheps as well as her Master of Music in Lied accompaniment.
Alongside her studies, she received important incitements among others from Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Dang Tai Son, Pavel Gililov, Michel Beroff and Dina Yoffe, Antony Spiri, Cristian Beldi, Christoph Prégardien, Michael Gees, Roger Vignoles and Konrad Richter.
As a chamber music pianist and Lied accompanist, she gives concerts in-country and abroad and is open for experimental lineups. She was awarded the first prize of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne’s Liedduo competition in 2015 as well as the Festival Vocallis prize in 2016. In 2017 she won first prize at the International Competition for Chamber Music in Chieri, Italy.
Rie Akamatsu was already valued during her studies for her work as a répétiteur in master classes as well as the bassoon class of Professor Georg Klütsch and furthermore in several singing classes, all at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne. As of today, she is lecturer in Cologne for bassoon correpetition in the class of Professor Bram van Sambeek.
