The Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, founded in 1993 by Vladimir Delman, has been regarded in these last years as one of the Italian leading orchestras, performing a repertoire which ranges from Bach to the main symphonic composers of nineteenth-century to contemporary music. In 1999 the Orchestra made the opening of its own new orchestra hall, Auditorium di Milano, with Mahler's Symphony n. 2 under the conduction of Riccardo Chailly.
In 2002, the Orchestra was resident orchestra at the “Festival dei Due Mondi” in Spoleto and had its first European tour in France, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. In 2003, under the conduction of Oleg Caetani, the Orchestra played in Chile, Argentina and Brazil as well as, in October, in the most prestigious concert halls in Japan, under the baton of Riccardo Chailly and the participation of Martha Argerich and laVerdi Choir directed by Romano Gandolfi.
In June and July 2009 laVerdi was invited to perform in a series of concerts for the 52° Festival dei due mondi in Spoleto: the official opening concert with music by Giancarlo Menotti (conducted by James Conlon); Puccini's ‘Gianni Schicchi’ conducted by James Conlon and directed by Woody Allen. In December 2011 Orchestra and Chorus were invited in Oman, performing George Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, for the inauguration of the Royal Opera House in Muscat.
In July 2013 laVerdi, conducted by John Axelrod, guest star violinist David Garrett, took part in an enthusiastic tournée in Germany. In September 2013 the Orchestra – conducted by Zhang Xian – was officially invited in London to the prestigious Royal Albert Hall or its debut at BBC Proms. In February 2016 laVerdi, conducted by Oleg Caetani, performed three concerts at the Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg (Austria).
Orchestra Sinfonica di milano has been regularly invited at KKL Luzern for its New Year Concert, featuring Khatia Buniatishvili and Claus Peter Flor.
After a 7-year tenure of Maestro Zhang Xian, the Orchestra has recently appointed Maestro Claus Peter Flor as its New Music Director for the following three seasons.
The Orchestra has developed an intense recording activity (more than 25 CDs) under the following labels: Decca, Emi, RCA, DG, ARTS. In 2018 the Orchestra started a new collaboration with IDAGIO, one of the leading Europan streaming platform for classical music, by recording the entire cycle of Mahler’s Symphonies.
