David Friedman

David Friedman is considered to be one of the most influential vibraphonists in the history of the instrument. Thanks to his collaboration with big names from the world of music, such as Leonard Bernstein, Luciano Berio, Bobby McFerrin, Wayne Shorter and Yoko Ono, he exhibits a particularly broad performance and recording spectrum. He can also be heard on Chet Baker’s award-winning record ‘Peace’, with both his own compositions and playing the vibraphone.

David Friedman is a passionate teacher. He established the jazz degree programme at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. He gives master classes in Europe, North America and Japan. Friedman’s release ‘Shades of Change’ with the pianist Geri Allen, the bassist Anthony Cox and the percussionist Ronnie Burrage was voted ‘one of the best 20 CDs of the year’ by Downbeat Magazine.
