Birte Leest

Birte Leest was born in Essen. She completed her acting degree at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. She then got engagements at the Volksbühne Berlin, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Staatstheater Stuttgart and the Schauspiel Frankfurt. In 2004 Birte Leest received the Vontobel prize at the Theatertreffen deutschsprachiger Schauspielschulen. In June 2007 she was awarded the young talent award issued by the Fördergesellschaft Kassel e.V.

From the 2014/15 season to the 2016/17 season she was a member of the Schauspielensemble at the Staatstheater Braunschweig. She played, among other things, Barbara in ‘August: Osage County’ by Tracy Letts (directed by Nicolai Sykosch), Franziska in ‘Minna von Barnhelm’ (directed by Michael Talke) and in ‘Das Ding’ by Philipp Löhle (directed by Mina Salehpour).

Birte Leest has worked with the directors Rene Pollesch, Kay Voges, Jette Steckel, Schirin Khodadadian and Clara Weyde. Since the 2017/18 season Birte Leest has been a full ensemble member at Staatsschauspiel Dresden.
