An international cast and internationally active: the musicians from the Asasello Quartett, an exceptional classical string quarter, have been confronting a huge repertoire, from Haydn to the present, and they have been doing so on stages big and small, in recording studios, in co-operation with other artists and as teachers for chamber music.
Their CVs include degrees from the universities of Basel (Walter Levin, Hatto Beyerle) and Cologne (Alban Berg Quartett and David Smeyers), private lessons with Chaim Taub, David Alberman, Jürgen Geise and Christophe Desjardins as well as many master courses (Helmut Lachenmann, Thomas Adès, Michael Jarrell, Matthias Pintscher and others) and participation in international competitions (Förderpreis Bubenreuth, 1st prize Migros Kulturprozent 2003, 2nd prize Hochschulwettbewerb der Deutschen Hochschulen 2004, invitations to Banff, Bordeaux, Geneva, London, 2nd prize Hamburg ICMC 2010). The ensemble held a scholarship with Villa Musica, Lucerne Festival Academy, Heidelberger Frühling Atelier, ‘Best of NRW’ Dörkens Stiftung and was awarded the recognition award of the Rentsch Stiftung as well as Preis der Deutschen Konzertdirektionen for developing the concert series 1:1 Weiter Hören! in Cologne. The recording of the Schoenberg quartets in 2016 was awarded the Supersonic and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
Projects such as ‘Paysages’ since 2009 or the new Schönberg cycle by the Asasello Quartett since 2016 were and are supported by Pro Helvetia, Kunststiftung NRW, Rheinenergie Stiftung, Stadt Köln and others. In this context the ensemble has issued several composition commissions (for example to Lisa Streich, Alexandra Gryka, Viera Janarcekova and Marton Illes).
The Paul Sacher Stiftung in Basel included all of the Asasello Quartett’s releases to date in its collection.
