Cellist Isang Enders has quickly distinguished himself as a musician of new conceptions and an unrelenting curiosity, which he repeatedly demonstrates with his particularly broad repertoire. With his early release of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites on CD and record, the FAZ described his »overwhelming technical playing ability and precocious perceptiveness«.
Isang Enders has performed around the globe, showcasing the breadth of his repertoire not only as a soloist but also as a chamber musician. He has performed Unsuk Chin’s Cello Concerto in Stavanger, with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France to Paris, at Opera City Hall in Tokyo and also in Sao Paolo. Most recently, he participated in the world premiere of Charlotte Bray’s Triple Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra in England and his colleagues from the Sitkovetsky Trio, of which he has been a member for three years.
An Asian tour with the Czech Philharmonic and the Dvořák Cello Concerto, as well as his guest appearances in Hong Kong, New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, and the venerable Concertgebouw Amsterdam stand out. Isang Enders can be heard regularly at the Heidelberger Frühling, the Rheingau Music Festival and international chamber music festivals.
Isang Enders has had the pleasure of performing on important stages with great conductors and chamber music partners. He has worked with Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Myung-Whun Chung or Eliahu Inbal and has been a soloist at the Vienna Musikverein, Prague’s Rudolphinum and Berlin’s Konzerthaus as well as at the major festivals of Schleswig-Holstein, Paris and Marlboro. He finds his long-standing collaboration with pianist Igor Levit particularly inspiring.
Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1988, Isang Enders began studying with Michael Sanderling at the age of twelve. Gustav Rivinius, Truls Mørk and especially the mentorship of the American cellist Lynn Harrell had a strong influence. At the age of 20, Isang Enders interrupted his studies for the engagement as »1st concertmaster of the cellos« of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, which remained vacant for more than ten years. In 2012 he left Dresden and taught for two years with a substitute professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Since then he has dedicated himself to his work as a soloist.
Isang Enders plays on an instrument by Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, Paris 1840 – whose acquisition is supported by the American Von Mendelssohn Fund – and a cello by Tobias Gräter, Heidelberg 2015.
